This became apparent to the outside world during the August 2003 blackout in the northeast that left 50 million people powerless. One solution to this challenge lies in the area of operational improvement. It is possible for most utilities to increase their efficiency across the board – from their generating facilities, to their call centers, business processes and technology infrastructure.
